VMI Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:

  • VMI will implement summer hours beginning Friday, May 24 and ending Thursday, Aug. 15. The Institute will be open Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visitors to VMI's museums are encouraged to visit each museum's website for specific hours and tour availability.
  • Find gifts for grads, family, and friends, including end of season clearance items up to 50% off, at the VMI bookstore.
  • The latest edition of the Institute Report is now available. Learn more about events and happenings on post, including Breakout, the 7th Annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion event, guest speakers, and a look back at selfless service as part of the celebration of 50 years of the IR.
  • VMI baseball will close out the home season May 16, 17, and 18 against Western Carolina at Lamore Field.

Graduation Diplomas

Class of 2024 Celebrations on the Horizon

Graduation week kicks off with a glee club and band concert Monday, May 13 at 8 pm. in Memorial Hall. Find the full schedule of the Institute's hallmark events at www.vmi.edu/graduation  including awards ceremonies, parades, VMI's Baccalaureate service, first oaths and pin-ons for officers completing their ROTC programs, and the walk across the stage in Cameron Hall to receive diplomas and officially compete a VMI cadetship. The joint commissioning and commencement ceremonies will be streamed live on the VMI website and YouTube channel.

Peay Scholars Celebrated

Brig. Gen. Robert W. Moreschi honored seven exceptional cadets at VMI who are recipients of the prestigious Peay Merit Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to cadets who demonstrate exceptional leadership, academic excellence, athletic commitment, and an interest in national service.

Board of Visitors Approves 2024-25 Tuition and Fees, New Officers

The VMI Board of Visitors (BOV) approved tuition and fees for the 2024-25 academic year at their spring meeting last weekend. Tuition and fees will increase by 2.8% next year. The BOV wrapped up its three-day meeting by electing John Adams ’96 board president for the upcoming year.

Combat Shooting Club Dominates at Competition

The combat shooting club team at Virginia Military Institute, coached by Paul Lahah, outperformed the competition at the 2024 ROTC College Clash Marksmanship Competition, April 19-21 at Fort Barfoot, Virginia.

Former Virginia Sen. Norment '68 Honored

Virginia Military Institute honored former Virginia Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr. ’68 with a parade on post April 26. The recognition was for 30 years of service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
